Making Magic |Wedding Hair

Katie joined us on the styled shoot at The Dale Manor to style our models hair, Here’s a little insight into who she is and what she offers, online with some cracking pics from the day and of her work. Enjoy!
Hi Katie, thanks for joining us!
What was your inspiration for what you delivered on the day?

I was highly inspired by a Boho wedding style as the setting and hair pieces all worked well with that theme.

Our models hair was exactly what we wanted for the style of the shoot!
What is your most popular item or package?

Wedding hair is a very popular request from my clients and I like to ensure I am keeping up with what’s hot and trending.

What’s hot right now?

Hot right now is alot of floral, boho, soft romantic curls.
And Katie’s spot on with what’s hot right now, here are just a few examples of the stylings our brides went for:

So, how did you get into your business?

I first started hairdressing when I was 15 years old as a “Saturday Girl” at a local hairdressing salon.  It was there I found my love for all aspects of hairdressing.  I was really hungry to learn more and dedicated myself to understanding all the various skills and techniques available.  I like to think I’ve maintained that passion & ethos throughout my career.

I made the transition from a Saturday girl to a full time junior while starting a apprenticeship for 2 years, I then went on to doing my level 3 and follow on course to always update my skills then progresses to a stylist, in some salons I have worked in I have specialised in  wedding, pins up.

What do you love about what you do?

I particluarly love the atmosphere of doing Wedding hair.  There’s nothing more enjoyable than being part of the atmosphere on the morning of someones wedding day – the buzz of excitement, the support and love shown by family and friends and of course, that moment you “reveal” the bride!  Priceless!

What are you working on at the minute?

I’m constantly looking for ways to improve and develop the services I offer, which is imperative in this industry.  Most recently I’ve attended workshops on Balayage, Colour Correction and Wedding Hair pin ups. I’m also looking to get in to teaching.

Where do you see your business in the future?

At the moment, my focus is on growing my business as a high quality mobile hairdresser.  As a mother of two young children I know it’s not always possible to get to a Hair Salon, so I like to bring that luxury to you.  Wedding hair is also a big focus for me – I just love the opportunity to be a bit more creative.

If a couple like your style how do they get in touch?

The easiest way to get in touch is via my Facebook and Instagram accounts – Hair by Katie.  There you will see lot’s more examples of hairstyles I’ve created.

You can also call or text me on 07709853186.

Once a couple has found you what can they expect from the process from first getting intouch through to their wedding day?

The first thing I will do is ask them about their wedding (usually over the phone) the theme, the venue, date, size of wedding party, what’s important to them and how they want to “look” on their big day.  From there we can discuss styles and arrange a trial/trials.

What’s your best advice to couples planning their wedding?

A bit like a beautiful pin up, it looks best when a few of the tendrels have fallen out.  Remember everything doesn’t need to be perfect – in fact it’s ofthen the things that don’t fully go to plan that become the most memorable parts of your day.  If you accept that you will enjoy the experience even more.

Like these shots haha!

If you could go back to when you first thought about setting up your business and give yourself one bit of advice what would it be?

Similar to above, I think I would tell the younger me to give myself a break.

Carrots or peas?

Carrots – all day long!
