The One With Colin The Caterpillar

Ella & Ethan | Horton Grange

Set amid four acres of stunning landscaped grounds in the heart of rural Northumberland, exclusive-use venue Horton Grange is a refined yet relaxed spot for couples to tie the knot.

The Preparations

Having a Horton Grange wedding is just magical! But getting ready in the morning somewhere else can be a great idea – it gives you the chance to hire a fancy car if you feel like it and it can sometimes be a little easier – there are always scissors at hand at home which I always find is the number 1 thing needed on a wedding morning. Well that and plenty of bubbles!

Ella chose her 2 best girlies to be her bridesmaids and they had their makeup done by the lovely Diva Dust.

Ella looked absolutely smoking in her dress from Brides Dream! The lace, the nude undertone, the tulle, they were all perfection.

Mum was there too and we were shortly joined by a bunch of the boys. My favourite part of the morning was when we did Ellas dads first look, it was such a special moment for them both x

The Ceremony

You’re spoilt for ceremony choice at Horton Grange, with the intimate lounge being ideal for smaller gatherings, while the ultra-modern conservatory room offers heaps of natural light, as well as more seating. However, if it’s alfresco ‘I do’s that you’re yearning for, summertime nuptials under the garden gazebo is also an option.

Ella and Ethan chose to say their vows in the conservatory. I love the feel of this room bringing the outdoors in with lots of big windows and lovely light, I find it a perfect option for those not wanting to risk the British weather unpredictability of an outdoor ceremony!

Ellas dad walked her down the aisle to a teary eyed groom. Her brother did a reading and Ethans best man Denim was in charge of the rings. I’m not Gona lie this one was a real tear jerker, I may or may not have shed a few myself.

Family

Horton Grange is an elegant and intimate Grade II listed Country House set in 4 acres of beautiful grounds in Northumberland. The house and grounds can be exclusively yours to provide the perfect venue for your perfect day!

Horton Grange is an exclusive use venue which I love – full use of everything, and no randos haha!

The steps at the front of the house are a perfect spot for family pictures. When the weather is nice drinks are served outside so everyone can mooch about whilst jumping in and out of any formal pics.

I like to head over to the grassed are round the corner to have some fun with the wedding party before taking advantage of the cool spots around the venue for a few couple pics – I’m a big fan of the barn door!

Details

All of the details were so personal to Ella and Ethan. First off though we need to talk about the cake. No. Not the wedding cake but Ethans birthday cake – Colin the caterpillar! As it happens their wedding day shares it’s special date with Ethans birthday – at least he has no excuse to forget their anniversary haha!

Their actual wedding cake was proper gorgeous with real pressed flowers and foliage pressed onto the icing.

Table names were rugby balls! Such a cool idea and huge nod to Ethans love of rugby – he actually played a match the day before the wedding and everyone was on tender hooks to make sure he didn’t rock up with a black eye or broken leg. Luckily his best men had his back and he made it through without a scratch.

The wedding favours were cans of beer that Ellas dad (who runs a brewery) had specially made for the day.

If time allows and my couples are up for it, I always recommend getting some pics before the sun goes down. Ella had a lovely long veil so we headed out to get some portraits in front of the main building before nipping back inside for cake cut, first dance and the party!

To finish the night we did an epic sparkler exit and a few shots under the fairy lights. I love the over hanging trees and lights at Horton Grange. They are great to shelter from bright sunshine and a lovely light for a nighttime pic.

It was such a privilege to be part of Ella and Ethans day. It was full of love, laughter and a few tears. I left with tear stains on my specs and aching cheeks from all the smiles!

Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness in your next chapter as Mr & Mrs Priest xxx

Love always,

Sarah
