What is a wedding 'photobomb' and why couples love it

Every now and then I suggest something to couples that makes them pause and say, “Wait… what?”

It’s called a Photobomb.

And it’s become one of the most talked-about parts of the weddings I photograph here in the North East of England.

And no, it’s not your uncle pulling faces behind your ceremony photos. This is one of the most fun parts of the day, and it’s become a firm favourite with couples who book me as their wedding photographer.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Newcastle, Durham or Northumberland and you want photos that feel relaxed, fun and completely real, this might just be your favourite thing.

So What Actually Is A Photobomb?

A photobomb is a high-energy group photo session that lasts the length of just one song.

It works best after the cake cut and before the first dance, when your guests are already up, drinks are flowing and the room is buzzing.

Here’s how it works:
• You and your partner sit on chairs in the middle of the dance floor.
• Your DJ plays one song. AC/DC’s Thunderstruck is a classic.
• Your guests have the length of that one song to jump up and get their photo taken with you.

Friends, family, kids, workmates, old school pals. Everyone piles in one after another. You stay put. I capture everything as it unfolds, creating loads of natural wedding photos in just a few minutes.

Why Couples Are Obsessed With It

One of the biggest things I hear from couples searching for relaxed wedding photography is that they’re worried about not getting photos with everyone.

You don’t realise how many people you don’t see on your wedding day until it’s over.

The photobomb fixes that.

Instead of trying to track people down for formal group shots, everyone comes to you. You end up with photos with your favourite people, without the stress.

It Doesn't Interrupt Your Wedding Day

Because the photobomb fits perfectly between the cake cut and first dance, it becomes part of the evening rather than stopping it.

No awkward pauses. No long lists. No dragging people outside.

It’s high-energy, loud, slightly chaotic and exactly how many couples want their wedding photography to feel to kick off the evenings antics.

So many couples book me because they want their wedding photos to feel personal, not staged

The Photobomb Gives:

  • Dozens of guest photos without a long group shot list

  • A relaxed and fun way to capture everyone you care about

  • A moment your guests wil talk about long after the wedding

  • No Stiff Group Photos

  • Full of hugs and laughter
